I really want to be able to say “this is my first blog post ever!” but, I think about 25 years ago I started a WordPress blog and got as far as about one and a half entries, lol. Typical Blenda.
This is definitely my first ever Blenda The Good Witch Blog post though!
I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to do this. Sheesh…
For so long, I have had so much to say but didn’t know if anyone would want to listen. And I have felt that way about a lot of areas of my life.
It is no coincidence that while I’m breaking free of my writer’s block, I am doing the same with my visual art too. So, my very first post is about putting my authentic self out to the world in every way I can!
The unfinished sketch I’ve shared above is one of the only pieces I’ve truly enjoyed drawing since I was in college. (See my second blog post for more of the backstory behind this piece.) And I’ve recently started posting videos on YouTube too. (I do have a few videos from a couple years ago. I think I was just giving it a little test run and then chickened out, lol. Seems to have been a theme, hunh?)
I could write pages and pages about why I’ve been holding back all this time and I still wouldn’t be able to fully explain all the “reasons.” But, regardless of all the details, of all the messiness of life, insecurities, responsibilities and setbacks, I just wasn’t ready.
I am now though. And I’m glad for it. Because I’ve been speaking my truth a lot more lately. I’ve found safe spaces and safe people where I can do that now, and I want to be that safe space and safe person for other people too. I want to be a part of a community where we do that for each other.
So, here I am, and here you are. For whatever reasons, we’re connecting at this time, in this place, and in this way… we’ve been headed here for a long time. It was meant to be this way. I truly believe that, and I’m sure you do too. Because, if you’re here reading this, you’ve been waiting a long time too and it’s time to find your voice, and find your people, and make your space too. And we’ll make a lot more progress and have a lot more fun if we can do it together!
